Didsbury : Didsbury is situated on the north bank of the River Mersey and was once part of Lancashire. The name probably derives from 'Dyddi's Burg' meaning 'Duddi's stronghold'. It remained a small farming community until the mid 19th century when the town's proximity to Manchester caused it to develop rapidly. Didsbury has excellent shopping facilities and is only about six miles from the City of Manchester, famous for its art galleries, football clubs and of course the Halle Orchestra.
