Find retirement developments in some of the finest towns and villages in Chandlers Ford
Chandlers Ford lies on the old Southampton to Winchester Road and its name is thought to derive from 'Seamaegel's Ford' across the Monks Brook. Its name today is probably influenced by a local family living in the 17th century. In the 19th century the area was largely an agricultural community and it was not until the 20th century that considerable development took place. The railway station was closed in 1969 but it has since reopened with hourly services to Southampton.
