Retirement Properties Spotlight in Wicklewood

Wicklewood was mentioned in Domesday as Wicklurde and had a mill and four beehives. The village lies about four miles west of Wymondham and about 11 miles from Norwich. It is believed the remains of an ancient church lie beneath the current St Andrew and All Saints Church, which has a south tower.

Wymondham is a market town about eight miles southwest of Norwich and its name is thought to derive from 'Wigmund's homestead'. The town was nearly destroyed by fire in the early 17th century but still has a fine 17th century Market Cross. Elizabethan and moated Morley Old Hall lies about three miles southwest of the town. The parish church is unusual in that it has two towers and was once part of a Benedictine Abbey. St Thomas a Becket's Well is nearby. St Kett's Oak lies three miles to the northeast of Norwich and is associated with a local landowner responsible for Kett's Rebellion in the 16th century.
