Swaffham is a market town on the northern edge of the Breckland about 16 miles north of Thetford. Its name is thought to derive from 'homestead of the Swabians' and there are several attractive Georgian houses in the town centre. The 15th century church has an interesting angel-carved double hammerbeam roof and a fine 16th century west tower.
