North Walsham is a small market town about 15 miles north of Norwich and about five miles from the coast. Its name is thought to derive from 'Walh's homestead or village'. The town has a famous 16th century three-tiered market cross since restored. St Nicholas Church is one of the largest in Norfolk and has a 17th century monument to Sir William Paston who founded the grammar school attended by Nelson.
