Hunstanton developed as a Victorian seaside resort after the railway reached the town in the mid 19th century. It is situated on the north Norfolk coast on the east side of the Wash. The town has a long sandy beach and chalk cliffs. On the top of the cliffs are the ruins of a chapel dedicated to St Edmund, last King of the East Angles, who is thought to have landed here in the mid 9th century. The town has a well known tennis tournament.
