Norwich : Norwich was the most important city in East Anglia for a long time. At the time of Domesday it had a population of 5000 with about 700 Burgesses, over 2000 sheep and one goshawk. Since that time it has remained a leading provincial city with the greatest concentration of medieval churches in Europe together with its magnificent cathedral and imposing castle.
The castle is set on one of the cities largest hills and is now a museum but the cathedral with its beautiful spire retains its original ground plan almost unaltered and has England's finest Norman apse. Nelson went to the local grammar school.
