Attleborough was mentioned as Alteburc in Domesday and had a mill and some cattle. Today it is a small market town famous for turkeys and was once an important cider making centre. The church of St Mary's has Saxon foundations, a famous Rood Screen and a Norman Tower. A weekly market has been held in the town probably since the 13th century.
