Kelsall lies on Kelsall Hill about eight miles east of Chester and four miles northwest of Tarporley. The area has long been settled and the Romans took salt through the village on its way to the garrison at Chester. The village has a number of shops including a chemist and a butchers shops as well as several pubs. There are a number of good walks along the Sandstone way and by the Shropshire canal. The annual Chester Folk Festival is held every May.
