Audlem was mentioned in Domesday as Aldelime with a Hawk's eyrie and was granted a market in the 13th century. It it is close to the Shropshire border about eight miles east of Whitchurch. Moss Hall is a fine Elizabethan timber-framed mansion situated in the village centre and Audlem Mill situated on the Shropshire Union canal is now a workshop.
Lyme Wood Grange is situated off Cheshire Street to the north of the village.
