Sanderstead was mentioned in Domesday as Sandestede and belonged to St Peters Church in Winchester. The area has long been settled and Roman remains were found during the building of the local school but the village remained a small farming community for much of the medieval ages before expanding in the 19th century. The village cricket side has been playing matches here since the early 18th century and the current ground since the late 19thcentury. All Saints Church is a Grade I listed building and was built in the 13th century and Sanderstead station has services to East Croydon with connections to London.
