Pirbright is a village about five miles west of Woking and is where Henry Morton Stanley is buried. First mentioned in the 13th century the village's name is thought to derive from the old English for where peartrees grow. Much of the surrounding area is managed as an Army training area. St Michael and All Angels Church is a Grade II listed building with a galleted heathstone tower. Cricket has been played on the village green since the 18th century.
