Retirement Properties Spotlight in Esher

Esher : Hinchley Wood is about a mile and a half north-east of Esher which is about six miles from Junction 10 of the M25 motorway and about fourteen miles from Central London. Esher lies on the River Mole and first was mentioned in Domesday as Aissela. It derived its name from 'district where ash-trees grow' and is now famous for Sandown Racecourse. The town has some fine 18th century houses and some good local shopping. Nearby are the gardens of Claremont, once owned by Queen Victoria, and landscaped by Sir John Vanbrugh and Capability Brown. Wolsey's Tower is all that remains of a mansion once occupied by the Cardinal.
