Claygate : Claygate is a lively village with a good range of shops and a mainline railway station. It is close to the larger centre of Esher where there are more comprehensive shopping facilities. There are a number of good golf courses in the area and many places of interest including Claremont Landscaped Gardens and Chessington, Sandown Park is just north of Esher.
Semaphore House on Telegraph Hill was built by the Admiralty in 1822 as a signal station but is now in private hands. The area is open and wooded and largely owned by Elmbridge Borough Council. Nearby at Hinchley Wood on the hill is an Area of High Archaeological Potential in the Sites and Monuments Records.
