Alveston is a small village with local shops in what was once 'Old Gloucestershire' and is set on a ridge overlooking The Severn Valley with views across to The Royal Forest of Dean and The Welsh Hills. The village is situated between Bristol and Gloucester close to the market town of Thornbury. There is easy access to both the M5 and M4 and Bristol Parkway mainline railway station is about a 20 minute drive and Bristol Airport about 50 minutes.

 

Facilities include a resident manager and emergency alarm service, gardens and grounds. There is parking within the development and local shops are nearby. There is a regular bus service for the short distance into Thornbury or further afield to Gloucester or Bristol.

Thornbury was mentioned in Domesday as Turneberie and has a mixture of old and new shops in both the High Street and St Mary shopping centre with restaurants, inns, boutiques and supermarkets. The town has a modern sports and leisure centre.

There are several interesting places to visit nearby including the Wildfowl Trust at Slimbridge, Westonbirt Arboretum, Gatcombe Park, Badminton and Berkeley Castle. Thornbury Castle was built by the Duke of Buckingham and was frequented by Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. The Duke was executed in 1521.
