HISTORY

Reigate as a town really began in the twelth century when the De Warennes caused the first properties to be built below their new castle replacing a nearby settlement at Cherhefelle.

William the Conqueror gave extensive lands to William Earl Warren who built Reigate Castle and upon which he now stands, a memorial erected by Richard Barnes in 1777 in Castle Park. On Reigate Heath another Surrey landmark is the 18th century windmill - the only one to have been transformed into a church.

Communications

The M25 (Reigate Hill, J8) is within two miles and links with other major motorway networks in the south of the country. Gatwick Airport is within seven miles.
