Originally the site of the Roman port of Clauesentum it was from Southampton that the Pilgrim Fathers set sail in 1620. Its deep water port ensured its place in maritime history with HenryV assembling his army here before invading France. The Maritime museum is housed in a 14th Century warehouse.
