Further Information

Clacton-on-Sea remains a popular seaside resort with pier, amusement arcades, golf course and caravan parks. The Clacton carnival takes place each August and the Clacton Airshow is immediately before the August Bank Holiday. Most national stores are represented in the town and to the north is a Factory Shopping Centre.

Situation

Collingwood Green is situated about three quarters of a mile from the town centre of Clacton-on-Sea.

Town

Clacton-on-Sea is an ancient settlement and is believed to get its name from 'estate associated with a man called Clacc'. In Domesday it is known as Clachintuna. For many years Clacton's livelihood depended on the farming community surrounding it and then in the late 19th century its sandy beaches helped it develop as a seaside resort. Later with the advent of cheap foreign holidays the tourist industry declined but the beaches remain and there are many interesting places to see nearby.

Facilities include a lift, communal lounge and conservatory and adjoining kitchenette with doors to the rear gardens laid mostly to lawn. There is a communal storage shed with power supplied for mobility scooters. The entrance to the building has inter-com video surveillance. There is also allocated parking.

Communications

Clacton-on-Sea is about 12 miles southeast of Colchester and about 13 miles from Harwich. Frinton-on-Sea further along the coast is about six miles and to the east Brightlingsea is about five miles. Fast trains to London (Liverpool Street) take less than an hour and a half.
