Woking itself was mentioned in Domesday as Wochinges and had a church and a mill. Its name derived from 'settlement of Woca's people'. Today it is very much a residential town with a modern shopping centre. The old town on the River Wey is about two miles to the south-east and the Shah Jehan Mosque was founded in 1989.
Communications: Guildford is six miles and Central London 25 miles. The M4 motorway at Junction 10 is four miles. Fast trains to London (Waterloo) take less than half an hour.
