Hayes End Manor is situated off Hayes End Road to the south of the popular small market town of South Petherton. The A303 skirts the southern boundary of the town.

The Manor is a very ancient house dating from perhaps the late 13th or early 14 hundreds. Legend relates a visitation by Dick Turpin on a Sunday morning. Finding the house occupied by defenceless women, he was persuaded to leave them unmolested. Better attested is the connection with Thomas Coke, well known divine and disciple of John Wesley. When curate of the parish he was forcibly ejected from the church and given shelter by the Edmonds family at Hayes End.

South Petherton lies just to the north of the A303, six miles east of Ilminster. Yeovil is 11 miles away and it is 16 miles to Taunton and the M5.
