The town centre has one of the three surviving Eleanor Crosses placed at the resting places along the route taken by her funeral procession on its way to Westminster Abbey from Lincoln in the late 13th century. The original crosses were in wood and Waltham Abbeys has since been reinforced. The cross is thought to have been sculptured by Willam of Ireland.

Waltham Cross is about two miles south of Cheshunt and about two miles north of Enfield. The M25 is less than a mile and fast trains to London (Liverpool Street) take less than half an hour.
