From the Quayside you can visit Brownsea Island which belongs to the National Trust. It is the largest island in Poole Harbour and its name is thought to derive from 'Brunoc's ' island. There are over five hundred acres with thousands of wading birds and other wildlife and the whole island is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Boy Scout movement first came here in the early part of the 20th century.

Bournemouth is about seven miles to the east and Poole Quay three miles. Swanage is 15 miles via the ferry, Corfe Castle 15 miles and Wimborne Minster 10 miles.
