Laurel Court is situated off Stanley Road in Cheriton to the northwest of Folkestone. The development consists of 70 flats with extra care facilities completed in 2008.

Folkestone was an important port for much of the Middle Ages but it was the coming of the railways in the 19th century that brought renewed prosperity as the town became a major harbour for cross-Channel ferries. It is also a holiday resort and along the top of the cliffs is a grassy promenade known as the Leas and popular for walks. Further east is the main bathing beach beyond the old harbour. The Warren is still further east and is an area rich in fossil remains. Shorncliffe military camp lies to the west on the cliffs above Sandgate and it is from here that troops marched down the hill to embark on ships to the Western front.

Folkestone is about six miles southwest of Dover and about five miles northeast of Hythe. Ashford is about 14 miles and the M20 less than a mile at J13. Fast trains to London (St Pancras) take less than an hour.
