Mendell Lodge is situated off New Chester Road in Bromborough to the south of Birkenhead and consists of 49 flats with extra care facilities completed in 2010.

In the 12th centruy Benedictine Monks built a priory at Birkenhead and the first Mersey ferry operated from here. Because of the huge distance across the Mersey Birkenhead remained very much a farming community until the early 19th century when a steam ferry was introduced. Thereafter shipbuilding began and the Iron Works started by John Laird sowed the seeds of a famous company.

Birkenhead is about ten miles north of Ellesmere Port and about 16 miles from Chester. Liverpool across the Mersey is about three miles. The M53 motorway at Junction 2 is about two miles and fast trains to London (Euston) take just under three hours. Trains to Liverpool (Central) can take ten minutes.
