Walpole Court is set in the delightful village of Puddletown in the valley of the River Piddle near Dorchester. This retirement development has been created from the former stables, garden cottages and walled garden of the beautiful 17th century Islington House, home of the first Lord Walpole (later Earl of Orford) and still a magnificent private residence. The small courtyard is formed by the attractively converted 19th century stables and garden cottages and backs onto the main courtyard approached through an archway from Orford Street. Both courtyards are open to the south bounded by the Islington House drive with its magnificent yew hedges and the old garden wall.

Puddletown lies about nine miles from the sea near Weymouth and is now by-passed by the A35 to the north of the village. Puddletown Forest has a mile long avenue of Rhododendrons and nearby is Athelhampton Hall, a magnificent 15th century house. Elizabethan Waterston Manor is on the other side of the village.

Puddletown is on the A35 Dorchester to Bournemouth road at its junction with the A354 from Blandford Forum and Salisbury. Dorchester is five miles away from where there is a frequent train service to London via Poole, Bournemouth and Southampton taking about two and a half hours.
