The Abbeyfield Society has about five hundred houses in the United Kingdom. The majority provide Supported sheltered housing (SSH) and there are also a number of care homes.

Armstrong House has one of the finest views in Northumberland set back as it is from Front Street and Bamburgh Castle. There are 12 flats altogether with single bedrooms and small but attractive living rooms. Here residents find the privacy and security they seek when managing alone in their own home has become a burden. They are totally independent and receive visitors and have two meals a day.

Bamburgh Castle has one of the finest locations of any castle in England. It is set on a low promontory on the north east coast and has long guarded this stretch of coastline. It became a royal centre in the sixth century, the seat of the Northumbrian kings, and was restored by Lord Armstrong in the 1890s. In the village there are shops set around a village green and the Grace Darling Museum opposite St Aiden‘s Church. Grace Darling famously helped resuce the crew of the steamship Forarshire in the nineteenth century. Offshore are the Farne Islands, about four miles, home of St Aidan and St Cuthbert in the 7th century.

Bamburgh is situated on the north East coast about four miles east of the A1 some 20 miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and 16 miles north of Alnwick. Newcastle is 45 miles. The popular seaside resort of Beadnell is four miles further down the coast. Chathill is about seven miles from where trains take about 45 minutes to Newcastle.
