The long beach is mainly shingle and the Wish Tower gardens are named after the Martello tower which is now a museum dedicated to the Napoleonic Wars. The town has many splendid public gardens and parks. Meads Road is close to the Old Town and from Compton Park and the Golf Course you can walk over the downs to the Long Man of Wilmington at Windover Hill.
