The ancient North Mill of Halstead in Essex - Frost‘s Mill since the early 1700‘s - is where Cognatum Limited manage 22 roomy retirement cottages and flats. The mill building has been preserved - even down to the mill stones and grinding machinery - and has been transformed into three fascinating and unusual residences in a lovely setting. Many of the properties have conservatories and each one has its own garage.

Halstead is situated in the Colne Valley and its name seems to derive from the Old English 'hald' meaning a safe place or refuge. The old settlement is on the hill north of the river. The town has a good range of shops, inns and restaurants.
