The islands of Corfu and Cephalonia have been described as the 'richest prizes in the Ionian'. Corfu has a fascinating past and has long played a central part in the Maritime History of the Mediterranean. Today it attracts many to its shores for its unsurpassed beauty and its British naval associations have ensured its continuing allure for not just the British yachting fraternity but also those cultures that have shaped its history.

For further information see 'Corfu's Sea Legends' by Rodney Agar published by R A Marine, East Knoyle, Wiltshire.

The Castle of St George once occupied the island which is now connected to the mainland and Papadiamanti - the main street of Sciathos full of shops, restaurants and bars. Sciathos is one of the most forested islands of the Aegean and is known as the diamond of the Northern Sporades with an excellent climate and mild winters though often with a high rainfall especially on the north western coast. Today the economy largely rests on the tourist trade and whilst much has changed in thirty years the island still retains its considerable charm and welcoming appeal.
